Ryde has joined the Shared Micromobility Alliance, an international network run by the Cities Today Institute that connects cities, operators, and industry players around shared mobility. As an e-scooter and e-bike operator active in 70+ cities across Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Germany, Ryde joins to exchange knowledge and best practices with peers on topics from regulation to sustainable operations. CEO Tobias Balchen discussed the membership in an interview with Cities Today.

Ryde has partnered with StandAB to install smart charging racks across its Vaasa fleet, fitting all scooters with charging adapters in just one week. The racks automatically charge docked scooters, end rides automatically, and remove the need for end-of-ride photos, improving both fleet efficiency and the rider experience.

Ryde worked with an NTNU cybernetics professor to investigate scooter stability after he found the ride too unstable to steer with one hand. The findings pointed to a steering geometry factor called trail, and testing showed a clear improvement when it was increased. Ryde has since raised the trail specification from 10mm to 40.6mm across its newest scooter generation, making rides more stable and safer.

Ryde has completed a survey across Nordic cities to better understand how shared e-scooters are used in everyday life. The findings show that micromobility has become a natural part of urban transport, supporting commuting, social trips, and seamless connections with public transport.

Ryde has collaborated with the Institute of Transport Economics (TØI) to conduct a major survey on mobility. Through this collaboration, TØI has gained access to a wide range of users, contributing to better insight into how e-scooters are used, which modes of transport they replace, and how they impact urban mobility.
