We're excited to share an update from Vaasa, where we've partnered with StandAB to roll out a new generation of smart parking & charging racks across the City. Our entire scooter fleet has been fitted with adapters enabling the scooters to be charged while parked in the racks. The result is a system that's better for our operations and, just as importantly, better for our customers who ride with us every day. By guiding riders to designated parking spots, the new racks help ensure scooters are left neatly and responsibly, keeping public spaces tidy and accessible for everyone.
Installing new infrastructure across an entire city's fleet is never a small undertaking, but thanks to strong teamwork on our side and with support from StandAB we managed to equip our entire Vaasa fleet with the new adapters in just one week, enabling seamless charging from the new racks.
To make that timeline possible, we brought in colleagues from across Finland to support the local team during the installation period. It's a great example of what our organization can pull off when people are willing to pitch in beyond their usual city or role, and it speaks to how seriously both teams took getting this right. At peak speed, the team was completing each installation in under 60 seconds per scooter, well beyond what anyone had expected going in.
The racks themselves are simple in concept but make a real difference in practice: when a scooter is parked into one, it automatically begins charging. In the long run this means fewer battery swaps and a more efficient operation overall, but the benefits don't stop there.
The new racks change the end-of-ride experience for our customers in two simple but welcome ways:
When a rider parks their scooter into one of these racks, the trip ends automatically. There's no need to manually end the ride through the app once the scooter is docked.
We also no longer require an end-of-ride photo for these parkings. Normally, free-floating parking requires a quick photo to confirm the scooter has been left tidily and safely. With the new racks, the rack itself does that job, since a docked scooter is by definition parked properly. That means a faster, smoother end to every trip.
These improvements are currently in development and will be rolled out in the coming months.
This project in Vaasa is a strong proof point for what charging-integrated parking infrastructure can do, both for fleet efficiency and for everyday rider experience. We want to thank StandAB for their planning and execution on this rollout, and our own team members who traveled to help make the swift installation possible.
We'll be keeping a close eye on how the racks perform over the coming months, and we're looking forward to sharing what we learn.
