Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (HAZ) put Hannover's five licensed e-scooter operators, Bolt, Dott, Lime, Voi, and Ryde, through a head-to-head comparison test across ride feel, equipment, app usage, and price. Ryde came out on top.
Published on 30 September 2026 by journalists Tobias Kurz and Celine Meinel, the test lands as the City of Hannover prepares to cut the number of licensed operators from five to three and cap the total fleet at 6,000 vehicles.
HAZ rated Ryde highest for ride feel and equipment, praising the throttle, brakes, lighting, induction charging phone holder, and audible turn signal, and noted that Ryde has only operated in Hannover since May. The app review was more mixed, with HAZ pointing to the lack of a reservation button as an area to improve. On price, Ryde was grouped with Voi and Lime as the most competitive in the test.
Across all categories, HAZ ranked Ryde first overall, ahead of Voi, Dott, Lime, and Bolt, and named Ryde the test's outright winner.
"Being rated the best e-scooter in Hannover by an independent newspaper, in a market we only entered a few months ago, is a strong signal that our product and operations stand up to direct comparison anywhere we operate," says Tobias W. Balchen, CEO of Ryde Technology.
